Exceptional growth and profound company culture among the top qualities that set United Homes Group apart as the winner.
United Homes Group (UHG) has been named the 2024 recipient of the highly anticipated Builder of the Year award, bestowed by BUILDER magazine, a Zonda Media publication. The award will be presented live at the 35th annual Builder 100 Leadership Summit in Dana Point, California, in May.
“United Homes Group has had a remarkable year—becoming the first publicly traded home builder in roughly three years and quickly following up with several acquisitions,” said Jeff Meyers, CEO of Zonda. “These accomplishments augment the company’s impressive 20-year history of organic growth.”
“Turning my lifelong aspiration of becoming a publicly traded builder into reality has been an incredible journey. Winning Builder of the Year so soon after achieving this milestone exceeds all my expectations. The entire UHG team is deeply honored by this achievement and thrilled by the recognition it brings from our industry peers,” said Michael Nieri, UHG chairman and CEO.
Headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina, UHG was born of a merger between Great Southern Homes and DiamondHead Holdings Corp. in September 2022. In March 2023, the company went public on the Nasdaq, pursuing a strategy of both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. In August, UHG expanded into Raleigh, North Carolina, with the acquisition of Herring Homes. Just two months later, it acquired Rosewood Communities, and, in early 2024, it acquired Creekside Custom Homes, both in South Carolina.
“This award underscores the strength of our UHG team. We’ve cultivated an environment where each team member appreciates and can be rewarded by accomplishing our near- and long-term goals. Whether it be the ‘go-public’ transaction, integrating our recent acquisitions, or focusing on organic growth objectives, their expertise, diligence, and unwavering commitment are unmistakable,” said Jack Micenko, UHG president.

Congratulations to Ashton Woods as the 2023 winner of the renowned Builder of the Year award, presented by BUILDER magazine, a Zonda Media brand. The privately-owned firm, based in Atlanta, GA and founded in 1989, grew from $300 million to over $3 billion over the past ten years, with closings increasing an impressive 252% since 2016 and 80% since 2020. With 8,591 homes closed and $3.5 billion dollars in revenue, Ashton Woods is ranked 12th on the Builder 100 list this year. Because of the company’s incredible growth and business acuity, Ashton Woods has earned the esteemed title of Builder of the Year, presented today at the annual Builder 100 conference.
“For years, Ashton Woods has continually ascended the ranks of the Builder 100 list,” said Jeff Meyers, CEO of Zonda. “And it is no surprise—their strategic business acumen combined with their ability to read the market and act quickly to create opportunity consistently sets them apart. We are proud to present Ashton Woods as the 2023 Builder of the Year.”
Ashton Woods’ industry-leading design, delivered via its award-winning Studios and AW Collections, fueled the company’s early growth over the past decade. In 2017, the company launched Starlight Homes, its entry-level brand focused on making the dream of home ownership a reality, particularly for first-time homebuyers, and they’ve never looked back.
“This honor is truly a testament to the collective work of our entire team,” said Ken Balogh, President and CEO of Ashton Woods. “While it was never a stated goal of ours to be named Builder of the Year, it is a by-product of the incredible talent we have across the organization and a culture that empowers our teams to take big swings, make an impact and do the right thing. Every single one of our employees should feel a great sense of pride in this recognition.”
Balogh attributes the company’s phenomenal growth to a culture that supports agile decision-making and empowers its employees to own their piece of the business at every level.
“This is really the core of our DNA. We’ve got a passionate team that is never satisfied with the status quo. We are always looking for ways to grow the business and we’ve got a team that has proven they can pull off anything they set their minds to. This is just the beginning; the best is yet to come.”
Ashton Woods currently sells homes in Atlanta, Austin, Charleston, Dallas, Houston, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Antonio and Tampa – with plans to continue expansion into Nashville and Greensboro this year.

Congratulations to Landsea Homes Corporation, the 2022 winner of the prestigious Builder of the Year award, presented by BUILDER magazine, a Zonda Media brand. Through consecutive strategic moves, the Newport Beach-based home builder saw a historical year of transformation after going public, exceeding $1 billion in revenue, acquiring Vintage Estate Homes, expanding into the Texas and Florida markets, and completing 1,640 closings. All of which culminated to earn Landsea Homes the 47th spot on the coveted Builder 100 list along with the Builder of the Year title.
“Landsea Homes unequivocally earned the Builder of the Year award through its methodical approach to sustainability and growth,” said Jeff Meyers, CEO of Zonda. “Its commitment and dedication to designing healthy and environmentally sustainable homes has set the home builder apart as an industry leader, which has been demonstrated by its success. We are proud to honor Landsea Homes with this award.”
Landsea Homes was formed in 2013, went public in January 2021, acquired Vintage Estate Homes, a Florida-based builder in May, and established a $500 million unsecured revolving credit facility in the fall. The growth allowed the builder to purchase over 900 lots in a master-planned community in Texas. Additionally, Landsea Homes expanded its already-established Arizona and California markets, adding over 2,300 and 1,000 homesites, respectively. Landsea Homes closed the fiscal year with an impressive 40% growth on a year-over-year basis.
“It is a supreme honor to be named Builder of the Year, especially this year, given our company’s incredible growth. We continue to move into more markets and expand our brand strategically and quickly, and are building an ever-increasing number of high-quality, High Performance Homes that allow people to truly live in their element,” said John Ho, CEO of Landsea Homes. “Our leadership team and employees across all divisions are proud to receive this recognition from a publication as esteemed as BUILDER magazine.”
Adding to its Builder of the Year qualifications is the company’s unique holistic approach to sustainability via its High Performance Homes program, a four-tiered system focusing on automation, sustainability, energy savings, and healthy lifestyle. All of Landsea Homes’ High Performance Homes:
Following a successful 2021, Landsea Homes continued its streak with the acquisition of Hanover Family Builders in January 2022. Together with the 103rd-ranked builder’s numbers, Landsea Homes’ closings come to 2,228, which would move the builder to the 37th spot on the Builder 100 list.
“Every member of the Landsea Homes team pours their heart and energy into building the highest quality homes where lifelong memories are made. We approach every project with the utmost commitment and excitement. To be recognized as Builder of the Year is a reflection on all the hard work, high standards and dedication set forth by the team, and is a great driver to build on this momentum in the future,” said Mike Forsum, president and COO of Landsea Homes.

The prestigious “Builder of the Year” award celebrates Stanley Martin’s extraordinary growth and success, along with its high performing team and its strong company culture.
“To say we are honored by this award is an understatement. “Growing so quickly can be hard on an organization. We were very intentional about how we built a talented and resilient team that strives every day to do the right thing for our homebuyers,” added Alloy. “We believe that our team makes the difference.”
Since 2017, Stanley Martin Homes has been part of the Daiwa House Group. Daiwa House is headquartered in Japan and is one of the largest housing, construction, and real estate companies in the world. During calendar year 2020, Daiwa House achieved total revenues of $40.8 billion.
